IDG's Computerworld Selects SPS To Annual List Of Best Places
To Work In IT
Arlington, VA, May 31, 2002 – Software Performance
Systems, Inc. (SPS) announced today that it was selected as one of the best
places to work in information technology (IT) by IDG's Computerworld,
the newspaper for IT leaders. The distinction comes as part of the weekly
newspaper's annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, which was published in the
May 6th issue and online.
The Best Places to Work list is an annual ranking of the best work environments
in the U.S. for IT workers. In 2002, the feature was expanded for the
first time to include a unique view of companies from across the world.
To compile the lists, Computerworld assessed companies in several
categories including diversity, training, career development, benefits, hot
projects, retention, and other criteria prospective IT employees find most
compelling.
SPS not only ranked one of the 100 Best Places to Work in IT nationwide, but
also listed eighth in the Diversity category, with its 35% female IT employees
and 25% minority employees. SPS's management is comprised of 40% women
and 20% minority managers, ranging well above the 19% and 8% medians
respectively for all companies surveyed. SPS earned good marks in other
categories such as Career Development where it ranked 19th in "Staff
Promoted," Training with its average annual training budget of $1,500 per
employee, and Retention with its low 8% IT personnel turnover.
“SPS is very proud to have been selected as one of Computerworld's top 100
Best Places to Work,” says Ashley Zakas, SPS Vice President of
Human Resources and Administration. “As a young and growing
company, we make every effort to create a sense of teamwork and diversity
within our organization. Our President Greg Dorsett encourages family and
personal time, and strives to foster a work environment conducive to employee
empowerment, productivity, enthusiasm, and strong team play. Our success
is illustrated by high employee morale and a low turnover rate. Our
employees' commitment to the company translates directly to our commitment to
our customers and their successes.”
As a software development firm, SPS provides its technical staff the opportunity
to work with cutting edge tools in challenging IT projects. Ms. Zakas
explains that SPS's technical career path to the VP level is unique in that it
does not force an employee with technical talent and ambition into a management
role. Instead, SPS's three-level technical career path enables technical
employees to continue working and growing within their specialties while
increasing their corporate and leadership responsibilities. This,
combined with a mix of highly qualified professionals, very competitive
salaries, excellent benefits packages, a high training and continuing education
budget, and flex-time, make SPS an award-winning, energetic, and successful
company.
“The companies selected to our Best Places to Work rankings really
understand that it takes more than salary increases to keep technology workers
satisfied, even in a slowly recovering economy,” noted Maryfran
Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. “These organizations
offer a chance to pitch in on challenging, rewarding projects. They
create opportunities for career advancement. They provide a balanced set
of benefits. In short, the best employers build a positive environment
that keeps their best IT employees.”
