SPS Awarded a Contract with USPTO to Provide Electronic Systems Processing Assessment Services

Falls Church, VA, March 2004 – Software Performance Systems, Inc. (SPS) recently announced it has been awarded a contract with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to provide electronic systems processing assessment services for the Office of Public Records (OPR).

OPR assists patent and trademark owners in establishing and maintaining their property rights by recording assignments and providing certified copies of official USPTO documents. Assignment recordations are currently submitted on paper and require considerable staff resources, which is costly, time-consuming, and at risk of human processing errors.

OPR's goal is to allow USPTO customers to conduct business online. Under this contract, SPS will review and document all current OPR business processes, focusing on the manual and system-supported manual tasks. SPS will then develop a strategy for total electronic end-to-end processing by migrating and/or integrating the processes with current or future automated information systems (AISs). The result will be electronic business processes that migrate OPR operations to an electronic environment, map to the Federal Enterprise Architectural Business Reference Model (BRM), and link the BRM to the Performance Reference Model (PRM).
